Imagination Roadshow - Friday 5 April & Saturday 6 April
ECC Media Release - 9 April 2002

Friday 5 April:
Mike now having caught up with Bruce and the rest of the roadshow, Day 4 was the first opportunity to use all the equipment, including the Flicx pitch, for the first time. The morning session was in the same place as the previous day's sessions, with cricket for 4 year olds who generally had some prior experience of cricket. Bruce received a huge welcome from the children who already practised with him, all of them wanting to shake his hand. Mike and Bruce worked together, which gave the session a different style to those on the previous days, but the children really enjoyed it. They were all smiling when the prizes were given and did not want to stop playing. As it was another beautiful day, the coaches had a traditional French picnic with bread, cheese, salad and, of course, French wine. The afternoon was sunny too, so the 28 teenage participants for the afternoon session were brought outside and split into two goups of 14, one to practise cricket skills with Mike and the other to play a game with Bruce. They really appreciated the afternoon and seemed quite keen to join the local cricket club of Tergnier. They came to say a genuine thanks to Mike and Bruce before leaving to go home. The day finished with some photos being taken of the female teachers with Mike (who could not hide his joy at being surrounded by four women!)

Saturday 6 April:
The fourth and last day of the tour in France. The roadshow moved to Soissons, 40 kilometres south east of Chauny, where the team were welcomed at 9.30 by some very kind teachers. The morning session was attended by some highly motivated children who showed a real enthusiasm. The style of the session was slightly different to that of previous days, with the focus on batting and bowling skills, because these children had played cricket before. More technical aspects were then examined, but with the same, fun, approach maintained. Most of the same youngsters came back for the afternoon session, and were joined by another group, bringing the number of youngsters to 30. Again, the group was split into two groups, who produced some very good catches and batting strokes that pleased Bruce, Mike, Jeff and David ñ a perfect way to finish the French leg of the tour. In the evening, the roadshow team enjoyed a barbecue with the President of Chauny CC, before packing the equipment up to head on to the next destination.
