Swiss National Squad Training Camp - 27 April 2002, Marzili (Bern)
1 May 2002
Fourteen players recently attended a National Training Camp in Bern on what turned out to be a cool but sunny day. The Camp was structured to provide the attendees with information on the future of Swiss national cricket, a review of the latest rule changes and some up-to-date coaching instruction. Phil Gooda of sFOCUS provided the review of the rule changes, whilst for the coaching, European Development Programme coach Richard Skyrme was on hand. Many thanks to both gentlemen for their time and effort. Based upon the performances of the players at the camp, the final team for Switzerland's first international against France will be announced. This was the first training camp held for a while and for those that made the effort to attend I think it was extremely informative and helpful. A number of invited players did not attend, however, and it is hoped that the management of the clubs will get more involved in ensuring that their players make the effort to attending these types of events. This was the first in a series of proposed events, although forthcoming events will focus more on youth and coach development, to ensure the future development of the sport in Switzerland. Organiser Andy Roost would like to pay particular thanks to the Bern Cricket Club for making their ground and equipment available to us, and particular thanks to Abe Koshy for his efforts in getting the pitch ready for play after the downpour on Friday. Also a great thanks to Phil Gooda for the chicken curry, which hit the spot perfectly after Richard made us run around in the morning. Then thanks to the ECC for making Richard Skyrme available to us... we hope this was the first of many visits by Richard.... again, thanks Richard for your efforts and for the tips that you left us with. Last but not least, thanks to the SCA for supporting this event.
