Cricket makes it onto TV in Finland
8 June 2001
Another first for cricket in Finland was achieved last Saturday - 2 ‡ minutes of prime-time TV exposure in the weekend sports round-up following the 8.30PM news on national channel 1 covering the Finland National XI vs Rest of Finland League XI fixture. The clip included some shots of the game, including what must have been the first ever extra-cover drive for 4 shown on Finnish TV, an interview in Finnish with the Association chairman on development of cricket in Finland and internationally, and a brief on the new Finnish ladies team who played a short exhibition game in the break between innings. The programme has already resulted in contact with 2 new players, and the FCA are hoping that Finnish league results will be reported in the Saturday evening sports broadcast in future. In addition the Finnish-Australian Society in Helsinki have requested an introductory cricket demonstration for around 30 people on June 10.
