The inaugural David Barmes Memorial Match took place on the 4 May, with a Swiss Select XI playing the 2002 Swiss Champions Winterthur CC at the Bout Du Monde ground in Geneva. The Select XI won the toss and set about the Winterthur bowling. At the twenty over mark they had scored 120-2. Twenty-five overs later the score had passed 300 and European Development Program umpire Ken Amos's arms had signalled more sixes in one match then in a complete league season in Kent! The host club Geneva then served an excellent lunch.

The Winterthur openers started at the required rate but losing wickets at regular intervals took its toll, and Winterthur finally capitulated at just under 100 runs short of their target. Swiss Cricket Association President John Mckillop then introduced Mrs Barmes, who made the presentation of the Memorial Trophy to Select XI captain Tom Brink. The day was completed with homemade cake and the trophy filled to the top to drink to David Barmes' memory and the reunification of Swiss Cricket. A day he would have been proud of: good weather, good cricket and played in GOOD SPIRIT.
