Germany Win U15B Tournament
30 August 2001

Match in progress, U15B Tournament

Hosts Germany won the U15B Tournament after a keenly fought final against Israel. Germany won the toss and batted first, making 132 for 8 in their 30 overs. The Israeli XI were without two key players as a result of the match being played on their Sabbath. They started well, but the accurate bowling of the Germans kept their run rate down and restricted them to 82 for 7 at the end of their 30 overs.

Tournament Referee, Brian Canniford reported that "There was no question that the standard of cricket improved as the week progressed and while the learning curve was steep, it nevertheless emphasized the need to have such tournaments as part of the development programme", and added "New friendships were forged which should remain for many years as these players progress through the age groups." Tournament organizer Rupert Lavington agreed: "We saw 5 nations of children playing happily on the K–rnerplatz together. It was in good spirit and without problems. We all agreed that this is what coming together is really about ... I was so proud to see so many nations all showing just how much respect they have for each other. There was none of the cold atmosphere I often witness when footballers get together. They were just one large community."
