Full swing in Greece!
Twenty teams, involving around 150 children, recently participated in the schools' Kwik Cricket Tournament in Moraitika in the municipality of Melitia, Corfu, on 10 February. This was followed, on 10-11 March and 17-18 March, by the Greek Cricket Federation's 2001 Kwik Cricket Tournament for primary schools in the Municipality of Corfu. About fifty teams comprising four hundred students took part, playing fifty six matches at U10 and U13 level. All participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and will be taking up their bats again on 26-27 May for the GCF's mini cricket weekend. In the meantime, the Greek senior and U15 indoor championships are well under way. The U27 Indoor Championships, scheduled to give players the necessary warm-up for the ECC Indoor Tournament, were won by Gymnastikos CC, with Nafsithoos CC finishing second, Kerkyra CC third, Achileas CC fourth and Byron CC fifth. The following placings have also been finalised in the U19 Indoor Championships: 1. Nafthisoos CC, 2. Achileas CC, 3. Decathlo CC, 4. Gymnastikos CC, 5. Byron CC. Two new clubs will be participating in the Open Championships this summer - Faethon CC, based in Athens, and Nea Elvetia CC, based in Thessaloniki.
