Leg spin coaching for young German
Jackob Bumke, the German Under 19 Cricket Captain, currently studying at Bath University, attended the leg spin coaching clinic held at Taunton Indoor Cricket School on Thursday 13 July. Jackob learnt his leg spinning by watching Shane Warne on TV and had an excellent session with 20 other budding leg spinners under the expert eye of Terry Jenner. The session was extremely valuable and an ideal part of Jackob's preparation for the European Championships in Scotland.

France v Old England at Hastings on August 20
Derek Underwood heads a team of Old England players that will do battle against the French national side at Hastings on August 20 in a game to mark the centenary of cricket's only ever appearance as an Olympic sport. The 40-over game will take place at Horntye Park, Hastings' magnificent new first-class venue where Sussex played Zimbabwe in May. Admission is free and other former Test stars on display will include Brian Luckhurst, Roger Tolchard, Robin Hobbs and Martin McCague. Former Sussex favourite Jim Parks will manage the Old England side and his son Bobby, the ex-Hampshire keeper who is now coach to the French national side, will also be present. The France side, who are competing in next year's ICC Trophy in Canada, includes several home-grown youngsters who have received coaching tips from Richie Benaud, France's national cricket patron. One of the team's top players is David Holt, who has represented England Under-17s and Middlesex IIs. David's mother is French and a qualified cricket coach. England beat France by 158 runs during the 1900 Olympics. France in Kent County Finals
55 young cricketers participated in two District Kwik Cricket Tournaments in France, held at Chateau de Thoiry CC on 8 May and Chauny CC on 4 June. Following these 2 tournaments a team comprising players from clubs all over the country was selected to represent France in the Kent County Finals. In the event, holidays and travel problems meant that six players from Chateau de Thoiry CC and 2 from Marseille CC actually participated. They played exceptionally well, winning six of their 8 group matches, and eventually losing to Amherst School in the final. The commitment to youth cricket shown by Chateau de Thoiry CC, Marseille CC, Cabris CC, Creil CC and Chauny CC has made it possible for this number of young people to play cricket in France this season, in many cases for the first time.
