Winterthur CC lift the Swiss Cup in their first final
Winterthur got off to a slow start in the Swiss Cup Final but accelerated over the final 10 overs which produced 95 runs. Bern's run rate was higher than Winterthur's until the 29th over but the 1999 champions were down to their 8th wicket. Worthy of remark were the fine performances of the Swiss-born Winterthur players -- from the veteran wicket-keeper Ziegler, via Alex Möller to the teenage Thomas Bowler. The Bern 'Helvetics' were also to the fore with de Ligneris taking a fine catch at long-on to dismiss opener Swanepoel. Winterthur beat Bern by 93 runs Winterthur 235-5 (40 overs, Cooke 88*, Swanepoel 39) Bern 142 (31 overs, Koshy 48, J Kahn 39, Cooke 6-15) Man of the match: Paul Cooke (Winterthur)
