Romanian Roadshow
Bill Troup's last trip to Targu Mures in Romania was a positive one, culminating in the Fundatia
Ambasadorii Fair Play awarding him a diploma for his work in bringing cricket to the area. Children
at a school in Rāciu were shown a video of a Test match, before going out into 110-degree heat to try
their hand at the game on the forecourt of one of the old state farms More
Scotland Qualify for U19 World Cup
Following the bitter disappointment of the ICC Trophy, Scotland, hosts and winners of the recent
ECC Colts Tournament, have secured their place for the 2002 U19 World Cup, details of which were

Ireland Take Women's European Championships
On Sunday 12 August the EDM attended the final afternoon and prize giving ceremony of the Women's
European Championships at Bradfield College. The EDM witnessed a tense tussle between the ever-improving
Scots, who narrowly lost to the Dutch in fading light. On the adjacent ground, the Irish team totally outplayed
the ECB U19 team, bowling them out for 60 and thereby winning the tournament. More
Ireland Beat England - Twice!
On 7 August, the EDM made a brief trip to Eton College and witnessed the second victory in two days by the Irish U17s over their younger, yet highly talented, ECB U15 opposition during a series of international friendly matches. More

Portugal - Lisbon have regained the Kendall Cup after 7 years,
following their victory by an innings and 46 runs over Oporto on 14/15 July.
The annual inter-city fixture dates back to 1861, and this was the 76th
match played for the Kendall Cup since its presentation in 1920. Honours
are now evenly shared, with each side having won on 51 occasions.
Latvia are hoping to get their new ground sorted out in time for
next season, and are planning to take Kwik Cricket into schools. In the
meantime, a limited overs match against Finland is scheduled for 15
September, and a return match against Estonia will be played in Riga on 2
September.
Estonia, meanwhile, have been inundated with requests for Kwik
Cricket sets from schools keen to get involved - 43 in one county alone!
There are plans to organize a schools' tournament for the half-term holidays
to provide a focus for this new interest. The number of native Estonians
playing at senior level is also increasing all the time - the squad playing
against Latvia will feature at least five native Estonians and two permanent
residents.
Azerbaijan has been a cricket-free zone over the summer, as
construction has been going on around the ground. The players are hoping to
get some games in from mid-September.European cricket comes to Folkestone
Kent County Cricket Club, in partnership with Shepway District Council, is to stage its
first European Tournament in Folkestone from 12-14 September 2001. Teams from Holland and
France will compete with a Kent Cricket Board XI and a Kent County XI in a four-way competition,
aimed at stimulating further interest in the game in Europe. More
Germany Win U15B Tournament
Hosts Germany won the U15B Tournament after a keenly fought final against Israel. Germany
won the toss and batted first, making 132 for 8 in their 30 overs. More
Czech Republic v Slovenia: Slovenes Win Their First Home 'International'
On 28/29 July 2001 Slovenia played their first ever international match on home soil. The event was a two-day
game against the Czech Republic at Ljubljana CC's Valburga ground, 15 km north of the Slovenian capitalMore
Promising Signs of Interest from Bulgarian National Sports Academy
Professor Nikolay Kolev from the National Sports Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria, recently contacted the Europe
Office, having visited the ECC website and subscribed to the newsletter. He is keen to introduce a new sport
to Bulgaria and says that the students are interested in cricket.More
