Denis Burns

Qualifications:
Approved ACU&S and ECB Cricket Laws instructor to the new and prospective First Class Umpires List.
Fully qualified ACU&S member since 1995. Has lectured to Umpires and players in European countries on Laws 2000 code including France, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium, and Greece. Lectured with John Holder in Nice, France. He has recently visited Sydney, Australia to discuss umpire training resources with the New South Wales Cricket and Scorers Association.

Other Information:
Director of Information Technology for ACU&S. He has developed and delivered numerous training seminars to instructors and senior instructors throughout the UK. A qualified ECB Level 2 coach, he has coached and managed junior and senior teams from U11s to U18s. He umpires on a regular basis throughout the cricket season covering a full range of matches from youth cricket to senior matches. He has been coaching and umpiring for 15 years.

Graham Cooper

Qualifications:
ACU&S Full Member since 1983.
ACU&S Senior Instructor.
Appointed ECC Umpire Consultant in Dec 2001
Has been working with the ECC Development Programme since its inception in 1997 and has run courses in a variety of countries including Italy, Portugal, Norway, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Bulgaria and Slovenia.
Designed and wrote the ECC Introductory Course and Examination and in conjunction with the ACU&S helped design and prepare the ACU&S GL6 Course and Exam.
Co-author of the book ‘Tom Smith’s New Cricket Umpiring and Scoring’ which was published in November 2004.
Designed and wrote the Scoring CD – see Scoring section.

Other Information:
Umpires regularly throughout the cricket season covering a full range of matches from schools/youth cricket to international cricket at ECC Championships. Has had the honour of standing in 1 Women’s Test Match (vs. South Africa) and several Women’s ODI Matches.

International Badminton Umpire with EBU status and has officiated in many large European and World Tournaments such as The World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Thomas and Uber Cups and All England Championships. Has officiated in many countries including Switzerland, France, Netherlands, Turkey, Portugal and Slovakia.

Taught chemistry at an indepedent school in Newcastle-under-Lyme and retired in 2007 to take up a sedentary lifestyle.

Married with 2 adult sons

General fan of most sports with cricket and football (was a referee for over 21 years) as the favourites.

Ray Holyer

Qualifications:
A Full (Qualified) Member of ACU&S since 1976. Grade 1 Instructor since 1979 for both Umpires and Scorers. Approved ECB Instructor for new and prospective First Class Umpires.

Other Information:

Originator and past Chairman of the South Coast Panel of Cricket Umpires and Scorers. Has held many positions on the Southern Premier Cricket League and Hampshire Cricket League Committee’s with a special interest in Discipline and Rules. Previously and for many years was Chairman of the Combined Services CU&SA and the Royal Navy CU&SA.

Fortunate enough to have umpired and scored throughout the world on both tours and competitions. Regularly umpires within the Premier league and at all levels of the game of cricket.

Lectured to umpires and players throughout the UK and Europe on the Laws 2000 Code. Undertaken Introductory Umpire and Scorer courses to a plethora of European Countries. Has also run ACU&S course’s in Malaysia and France. In the past year has once again ran an ECB course for prospective First Class Umpires and recently ran an ICC Europe Introductory Course in Denmark.

As an ICC Europe Umpire Manager, Ray has undertaken this duty at many ICC European Tournaments.

Additionally Ray is now a well-established Tournament Referee having refereed at various ICC European Tournaments and for the Military. He is a member of the ICC European Elite Referees’ Panel.

Recently retired from being a Royal Navy Medical Services Officer and is also a physiotherapist by profession. Now working part-time with the MOD on moving training from the South of England to the Midlands.
