The Guernsey Cricket Board
The Guernsey Cricket Board was formed in May 2004 in anticipation of Guernsey's application to join the International Cricket Council. Until then, the overall governing body of Guernsey cricket was the Guernsey Cricket Association, established in 1927. On 30th March 2006 the Guernsey Cricket Board was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee.
Local club cricket
The administration of all domestic league and cup competitions is carried out by the Guernsey Cricket Association. A comprehensive programme of weekend and evening league and cup competitions are run for Guernsey’s 30 affiliated clubs (47 teams) from mid-April until mid-September.
Although there are 30 clubs in Guernsey only one club (Rovers AC) has its own ground. All other grounds are multi-use grounds owned either by trusts, schools or by the local government.
There are currently grass squares at the KGV, College Field and Port Soif (Rovers AC), while Nottingham wickets are situated at KGV, Memorial Field (x 2), Port Soif, Victoria Avenue, Mare de Carteret (x 2), Delancy Park and Les Varendes (x 2). A new Nottingham wicket is scheduled to be laid at Hautes Capelles School in April 2006 as a dedicated home for Under-11s cricket.
Nearly 900 adult and 400 juniors (aged 14-18) are currently registered to play senior cricket in Guernsey. With a total population of around 63,000, the level of cricket participation rate per capita is understood to be the highest of any of the ICC member countries worldwide.
Youth cricket
The administration of all youth (under-19) cricket is carried out by the Guernsey Young Cricketers Development Committee (GYCDC).
The activities of the GYCDC include:-
- running the PriceWaterhouseCoopers School of Excellence;
- running the summer leagues and winter indoor leagues;
- holding extensive coaching sessions from under-9s through to under-19s;
- running coaching courses in the Christmas, Easter and Summer school holidays;
- arranging and managing age group tours and festivals.
