Ramsey and Castletown start season with comfortable wins

Island CDO, Gareth Dawson has announced his squad for the ECC Under 17 tournament to take place in Germany between 9th and 15th of August 2008

A level 1 cricket coaching course is being held on the island over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Castletown were crowned as Standard Bank League champions without a ball being bowled as the weather put paid to the big title decider against St John's. Town take the title on nett run-rate.......

Man of the Match Danny Kniveton took 5 for 20 and hit 35 not out as the Isle of Man Under-19 side beat Israel by 3 wickets in their first ever game in the European Chjampionships Division 2 in Jersey on Monday....

St John's had a great week-end going joint top of the Standard Bank League and retaining the Tinker Cup on Sunday......

Can Castletown end St Johns domination this season? This is he big question following their capture of three new signings in Jamie Tomlinson, John Short and Mark Williams. An unchanged Saints squad will still prove tough opposition and they will still be in contention...........more

Danny Kniveton was the leading run scorer with 839 in all cricket while Garreth Roome took 39 wickets which proved to be the highest total by any one bowler. Pete Richards scored 163 runs in Island representative games while Gareth Morris' 175 was the best individual innings of the season.

The Standard Bank sponsored Isle of Man team returned home from La Manga with two excellent victories against Spain under their belts following two great performances at the weekend. On Saturday a top innings from Gareth Morris saw the Island home by 5 wickets while a score of 258 for 4 and 3 early wickets for Scott Pearce brought a victory by 173 runs on Sunday....SEE PHOTO GALLERY

Rob Webber's Island Select XI turned in an impressive all-round disply when they won the annual President's Day match at Mullen-eCloie on Sunday. Batting first the Rest of the Island team were soon in trouble........more

Nic Hawke turned in a man-of-the match performance as the Saints beat Castletown by 21 runs in the Premiership Final at Tromode on Sunday. Nic top scored with 53 before putting down 10 overs for just 19 runs........................

The Island Under-16's lost their final game against Jersey in the Jersey Festival but put up in a much improved performance in losing by 54 runs thanks to a better bowling performance and a defiant stand from Danny Kniveton and Seb Hopkins.....

Loaghtyn Rams took the Forrester Division 2 play-off by 3 wickets on Sunday in a tense game with Cronkbourne C. Chasing a low target of  78 the Rams were made to fight all the way by a determined Tromode side..........report

The Island Senior squad to tour to La Manga in Spain at the end of September has been confirmed. The team will play 2 International 50 overs games against Spain on Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October and there are also two 45 overs games against a Costa Blanca XI on Monday 2nd October and Tuesday 3rd October.............. 

 

St John's retained the Tinker Cup on Sunday when they beat Cronkbourne in a low scoring game at Tromode by 4 wickets. The Saints made it three in a row mainly thanks to a partnership between Ewald Kilian and Jon Norrington after they had been rocked by two early wickets......

Gareth Morris was in staggering recor-breaking form in Tuesday night's Cain League match against Ramsey. The Castletown man hit a staggering 19 sixes in an innings of 175 as the 'Town racked up a score of 270-2. He also took 34 off just one over in his epic innings. This followed a win over St John's and victory in the Sixes for 'Town....see report

Castletown edged out Crosby by 9 runs in an exciting Under-15 clash at King William's College as a direct hit run-out finally saw off the Marown side's challenge..........

Last year's surprise finalists Union Mills put up a spirited effort against Standard Bank League leaders Crosby at Marown on Sunday but still went down by six wickets to the Marown side who will now travel to Peel in the next round.......

A brilliant 99 not out from Richard MacNee was too much for Ronaldsway in the Blincoe Cyup first round tie as the Marown side won by 34 runs.................

Archive test summary

2004 was a good year for Manx Cricket and an exceptional one for St Johns.

The 3rd Four Islands Tournament, held every two years between Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Isle of Wight, was hosted this year by Guernsey.

The Isle of Man, along with China and Mexico, have been elected to ICC membership, taking the total of member countries to 92.

Representatives of the ICC visited the Isle of Man as part of the island's application for Affiliate membership.
