The Association’s major development programmes concern youth development, coaching and umpire training.

When a few enthusiastic juniors began playing cricket just 4 years ago no one imagined that some 400 youths aged from between 7-16 years of age would now be playing cricket under the umbrella of the development scheme that has emerged. It has already reached out into several Swiss schools. This organised youth development programme has successfully introduced the game to locals in ever increasing numbers.

Youth cricket has three main centres, Zurich, Geneva and Basle – but other clubs have emerged in the past year and now Cossonay, Gingins and Zug are also regularly coaching juniors, while all the regions pool players to form Swiss sides which compete in international youth tournaments at the Under 11, 13, 15 and 17 levels – most recently in Germany, Austria and Denmark.

The spread of the game has been assisted by enthusiastic parents coming forward to participate in ECB coaching courses. Currently the Association has 37 coaches, 12 of these already at ECB Coach Award UKCC2 level. In 2009 there are plans to run a Coaching Assistant (UKCC 1) course as well as a seminar on the use of video analysis in coaching.
